A Leitrim Councillor is calling for the HSE to re-evaluate the admissions process for mental health treatments.
Gerry Dolan says returning patients seeking care are having to be re-assessed and re-examined everytime they look for treatment.
He believes this is resulting in even longer waiting times than normal.
At a recent meeting of Ballinamore M.D. Councillor Dolan called on the HSE to admit patients based on their previous history.
''Now the new system is that when they go in themselves or are sent in, they go through all the red tape as if it was the first time and I'm demanding the HSE to rethink this process because I think it's a ridiculous situation to have patients, some go in voluntary and if they have to wait for hours some of them will walk out and go home again and if there's history or record or files there, go on that, and save this waiting time for them.''
