A Leitrim councillor who featured in an investigation by RTE into expenses paid to councillors by public bodies said he had refunded a payment made to him after he filled out a claims form in error.
Fine Gael councillor Enda McGloin was one of a number of members of local authorities across the country who featured in a report which centered on overlapping expense claims submitted by council members.
Councillor McGloin claimed for a return trip to Belfast in November 2019 from the NWRA.
However he also claimed expenses for a return trip to Belfast from Leitrim County Council on the same day as he was catching a flight to England for an awards ceremony.
The Fine Gael councillor told RTE that in the middle of December 2019 he was asked by the Northern and Western Regional Assembly to complete expense claims before end-of-year accounts.
He said he had completed the claim in haste and had subsequently refunded the relevant sum of €355.22 to the NWRA.
He said the time from September to December 2019 was a “particularly busy time” for him because he was Cathaoirleach of his council.
When contacted by Shannonside News on the issue yesterday Councillor McGloin said he had no comment to make.
