The call comes ahead of a meeting today between Minister Charlie McConalogue and farm organisations, where it's expected he will ask farmers to plant grains.
It's an attempt to offset food shortage worries across Europe, as Russia's invasion of Ukraine has impacted supplies from both nations.

Speaking at this month's council meeting the Leitrim native called for an urgent message to be sent to the Agriculture Minister over price concerns.
