The rural population in Leitrim will see a real benefit from newly topped up Local Improvement Scheme funds according to a local councillor.
The county has been the biggest winner locally, with their grant of €304,700 topped up by €831,100 for a total of over 1.1 million euro.
The allocation follows initial grants to the local authorities in April, with the second tranche today doubling the previous figure,
The Local Improvement Scheme provides funding to help local authorities carry out improvement works on private and non-publicly maintained roads.
Longford County Council saw €288,600 ring fenced for the scheme on top of April's €304,700.
Roscommon saw the lowest additional funding in the region with just €70,000 used to top up April's fund of €443,000
Councillor Enda McGloin says the funds will help to directly improve the day to day lives of many in the community once used.
