A local councillor has criticised the standard of drinking water provided to people without power in south Leitrim. Cllr Gary Prior said the water delivered by Uisce Éireann to residents in Drumlea was not fit for human consumption. He said Storm Éowyn has caused major issues for people in the county who were just beginning to recover from Storm Darragh in December. Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr Prior said water issues were adding to people's frustrations:
The Fianna Fáil councillor also called on Taoiseach Micháel Martin to visit those affected by the storm in Leitrim:
In response, Uisce Éireann said a small amount of sediment was dislodged from the mains pipe while filling the alternative water supply for customers in Drumlea and entered the supply in the tanker, unknown to the operator. The tanker has since been removed, cleaned and clean water has been returned to it. Uisce Éireann apologised to customers for this inconvenience and thanked them for their continued patience. Customers are reminded to use their own containers when taking water from tankers and boil water prior to consumption as a precautionary measure.
