Local Improvement Schemes involve homeowners helping to pay for the upgrade of small roads and laneways in rural areas.

Leitrim councillors are looking for a meeting with Transport Minister Eamon Ryan over a lack of funding to improve local roads.

Over 162 homeowners in the county want to have roads addressed under the Local Improvement Scheme - but there are delays due to funding issues.

These schemes involve homeowners helping to pay for the upgrade of small roads and laneways in rural areas.

Ballinamore councillor Enda McGloin, from Fine Gael, says Minister Ryan's department is largely responsible for the funding problems.
