Leitrim County Council is hoping to clear the entire backlog of areas waiting for their local road to be improved before accepting new applicants.
Following a query from Councillor Gerry Dolan, the most recent meeting of Ballinamore Municipal district was told that the Local Improvements Scheme is currently not open to new applicants.
There are still 50 areas on the waiting list and a council official has confirmed that they hope to remove at least 10-15 areas from the list this year if they receive similar funding in 2022 to previous announcements.
The Council also confirmed that they have made requests from the Department for a sufficient allocation, in order to clear the backlog, but this year's allocations have not yet been notified.
