Leitrim County Council to contact An Post regarding future of Carrick Post Office

Independent Councillor Des Guckian has called on An Post to donate the Post Office building to the local authority for use as a possible new library or town hall.

Leitrim County Council have agreed to contact An Post to query the future of Carrick on Shannon Post Office. The most recent postmistress, Ann Gormley, has retired following a number of years in the role. An Post says her resignation will not disrupt the service going forward, but chances are high the service will move elsewhere in the town.

Independent Councillor Des Guckian has called on An Post to donate the Post Office building to the local authority for use as a possible new library or town hall. The response from the council at the October meeting of the Carrick on Shannon Municipal District included an agreement that the council would inquire as to the future of the building. Speaking to Shannonside News, Cllr Guckian believes An Post owe it to the people of Carrick on Shannon:
