A nine-year-old girl has been awarded forty-five thousand euro compensation by Leitrim Circuit Court following a car crash four years ago.
The girl suffered a broken nose and required surgery following the crash in November 2016.
The court heard that the girl, who was five years old at the time, was a passenger in a car driven by her aunt when it was involved in a collision.
The girl struck the roof of the car as well as the passenger seat and suffered a broken nose.
Two weeks after the crash she underwent surgery to straighten her septum and has made a full recovery despite initially suffering anxiety and a reluctance to travel in vehicles.
Liability was not an issue and the court heard that the injury was assessed as moderate with the nose injury deemed to be worth between €22,100 and €32, 100 on a specified compensation scale.
The court was told that a recommendation of damages to the value of €45,000 was submitted as there was a slight chance of deformity as the girl gets older which Judge John Alymer said was a "reasonable offer".
The court heard the girl's long-term prognosis is "good" and she was awarded the full amount with a payment of €1400 euro made out in costs and the balance to be lodged within three weeks.
