Leitrim Sinn Fein Deputy Martin Kenny is repeating his call for the Minister for Justice to intervene to resolve the dispute between the Garda Commissioner and the AGSI.
Over 200 members of the Association of Garda Sergeants and Inspectors marched to Garda Headquarters in Dublin yesterday to publicly express their disquiet at the roster they're being asked to work.
The temporary system was introduced during Covid in 2020, and resulted in some sergeants and inspectors working an extra 47 days a year.
The Garda Commissioner says he's now sent the matter to the Workplace Relations Commission but the AGSI says it has never been agreed by them.
Deputy Kenny, who's the party spokesperson on Justice says the issue needs to be sorted as soon as possible, and if the Minister and Taoiseach need to get involved, then that's what needs to happen.
'We have large number of Gardai across the country who are very unhappy at the prospect of this new roster which will be every difficult for their work life balance arrangements.
There needs to be an arrangement and putting a roster onto a large public body like An Garda Siochana without proper consolation or without agreement I would not work.
I think it is time the Minister got involved and ensured that this is an agreement that can be found and a logical solution can be worked out that works for everybody.'
