A Leitrim company which specialises in renewable energy is welcoming government plans to scrap the requirement for planning to install solar panels on homes and businesses
It's being reported today that the coalition will remove the requirement to apply to County Councils for permission to install panels in order to encourage more people to invest in solar energy.
Currently, panels of all sizes for commercial and domestic businesses require permission from local authorities. It's also expected that restrictions will be imposed in certain areas of the country, such as near airports or military installations.
Andrew Hanley is a founder of Green Energy partners, which is based in Carrick on Shannon. He believes the change to the planning permission is good news for homeowners facing increasing energy bills.
"We feel it's something that needed to happen considering the way energy prices have gone. We're looking at home owners and business owners up and down the country under serious pressure at the moment so this is a massively welcome development".
