A proposal in the Programme for Government could be a massive tourism and environmental boost for County Leitrim.
That's according to the Leitrim based Good Energies Alliance, who have expressed their delight at a proposal to develop a UNESCO biospheres project around Lough Allen.
The agreement between Fianna Fail, the Green and Fine Gael this week contains a commitment to try and achieve new designations for sites similar to what has taken place at the Dublin bay biosphere in Bull Island.
Leitrim County Council has confirmed that it was unaware of any plans to include Lough Allen in the coalition document.
Chair of the GEA Aedin McLoughlin believes the overall proposed programme will be very positive for the environment and farmers and she is especially excited by the commitment around the Lough Allen region :
