A Leitrim Family Resource Centre is experiencing a 25% increase in the number of people seeking food support due to the rising cost of living.
Voluntary and state agencies are under increasing pressure across the region to help families who are struggling to provide the basics such as food each week.
People are being urged to reach out for help rather than suffer in silence if they are struggling and are reminded that all help provided by family resource centres is confidential :
Majella McGovern is the manager of the FRC in Mohill.
She admits there is a massive demand for services at the moment :
We would be looking at(an increase of) 20-25% and it is going to get worse because children are off school now.
"You have children at home all the time now and a lot of the children were getting food at schools and lunches provided whereas now that's is gone and so parents are going to have to try ad fill this gap. So it's going to be a massive pressure on families."
