Leitrim's Fire Service is reminding the public to remain vigilant during the spell of hot weather.
Those who're planning on having barbeques are asked to take great care, as the dry conditions can cause fires to spread rapidly.
Leitrim Chief fire officer Finian Joyce says particular caution is needed close to forests and bogs and he’s urging anyone who sees a blaze to report it immediately.
The local fire officer has this advice for the public when disposing of ashes.
''We'd recommend that people would use water and make sure that the ashes and the embers are properly cooled before being disposed off. Cigarettes or something like that are also a risk with the way the ground is, disposing of those properly is also another precaution that people should take. There's many people out there over the next few days enjoying all the walks that we have and all the forest areas in the county, so I would encourage them to be vigilant and to take care.''
