The Chairman of Leitrim GAA has denounced anonymous online criticism of the county football team following their loss in the US over the weekend.
Leitrim faced New York in the Connaught Championship in the Bronx on Saturday night where the home team won on penalties.
In a post to their website last night, the Leitrim County Board stated that while positive criticism is welcome, there have been several examples of messages that have no regard for those on the receiving end.
The board continued to say that both the team and management have made great sacrifices to dedicate themselves to playing for the county and all that was lost was ' a mere game of football.'
Chair of Leitrim GAA, Enda Stenson hit out at those criticising the team:
For anybody to criticise what they have done is intolerable, that's what it is.
It's cowardly on the part of those people who will sit down with a phone or an iPad or a keyboard or whatever they have and criticise those young players and their management, it's absolutely disgraceful.
If anything comes out of this weekend, it's that this has got to be stopped.
This is a low ebb, when you can sit down at a keyboard and criticise someone who has given everything.
