A Leitrim GAA club is calling on the GAA and the IFA to use their influence to push for a resolution to the lack of planning being granted for houses in the county.
The Ballinaglera club says the fact that young people can't get planning to build houses is sucking the lifeblood out of rural communities in the county.
The problem centres on regulations concerning approval for septic tanks for once-off housing which came into being in 2010.
Enda Gilrane who's secretary of Ballinaglera GAA says it seems to have been accepted that the rural areas will be depopulated and people will move into local towns if they want to stay in the county.
Speaking on the Lets Talk show today, Mr Gilrane says the two pillars of rural society are the GAA and the IFA and it's time they brought their influence to bear at national level
The present Chairman of the GAA in Leitrim, who is also a county councillor, says the issue hasn't been forgotten about and work is still underway to find a solution.
