A Carrick-on-Shannon GAA club has got planning permission for a €1 million development. The application involves three new playing pitches, off the Castlecara Road, and has been approved by Leitrim County Council. St Mary's GAA Club hopes to start construction early next year and to have two pitches available two years later.
In the coming years, the club also intends building a spectator stand, clubhouse, permanent dressing rooms, a function room and a gym. Club member and local councillor Cormac Flynn says their current facilities are no longer suitable.
