Leitrim Gardaí are urging the public use basic home security measures when leaving for holidays.
With the country in the midst of travel season, local Gardaí are warning criminals are specifically targeting holiday goers homes.
Anyone leaving their house for a number of days is asked to inform their local garda station that their property will be vacant.
Gardaí in Leitrim say this will be taken into account and local patrol routes can be altered to cover the area in question in many cases.
Garda Dora Treacy in Carrick On Shannon Garda Station is also urging people to wait till they're home to post pictures online:
Now we also advise to try not to post anything on social media while on holidays as this is providing vital information to criminals and its also vital to have a trusted key holder to keep an eye on your property while its unoccupied."
"So they could do simple things like opening and closing your blinds or parking a car in your driveway and maybe taking in any deliveries so they are not left outside your house."
