A Leitrim GP says that people in the county are being penalised with restrictions when there are low numbers of Covid 19 cases.
Ballinamore’s Sean Bourke was speaking as the county, with less than five confirmed cases of Covid 19 recorded yesterday, is the first in the country to return to below the figure of 100 in the 14 day incidence rate at 96.
Leitrim has had the lowest number of positive cases in the last two weeks at 31, this compares to Cavan which has had 429 cases in the last fortnight and where the 14 day incidence rate is 563.
Dr Sean Bourke says the low numbers are due to people being compliant, as well as the county being largely rural.
Dr Bourke maintains that the government need to consider easing restrictions for counties with low rates of the virus rather than continue to penalise them.
