The Green party spokesperson for Sligo Leitrim says they are fully aware that the decisions taken by the party in government may not result in good election results next time around.
Blaithin Gallagher was commenting in advance of the party convention which will be held in Athlone over this weekend.
It will be the first time the party members have bene able to get together in person since they entered government with Fine Gael and Fianna Fail in 2019.
Asked about the usual fate of the smaller party after being involved in government Blaithin Gallagher says decisions that have to be made for the future may not be popular now.
She says it's not something that the party can worry about or control.
'' The thing we always said in the Green Party is we're in here to make change. We're not in here about securing our future we're here about securing our world's future. So individual politicians may suffer as a result of doing good for this country, because people don't like change. At the end of the day, our children's children will thank us for getting in and being brave enough to make the change and having our partners in government make that change with us. That's what we're here to do. That could create political chaos within the party, but that's what we're here for.''
