Leitrim County Council says the barley straw project on Keeldra Lake has led to some improvement of water quality.
The local authority was responding to a query from Shannonside FM about algal bloom on the lake given the warm weather and history with the problem at Keeldra.
The council says during the Bathing Water Season water samples are collected and analysis carried out for the presence of harmful bacteria to make sure the water is not posing a risk to the public.
Additional water samples are also taken and analysed by local environmental staff to identify the types of algae present.
The tests being take presently are showing a decrease in the levels of Chlorophyll, and at the time of issuing the statement last week the council said no presence of algal blooms have been observed so far.
Where the presence of algal bloom is detected the local authority says advisory signage not to swim is erected.
