A Leitrim man has described how ground breaking surgery has changed his life for the better.
Michael McCabe from Cloone was diagnosed with Parkinsons 10 years ago when he noticed an involuntary movement in his thumb.
He underwent surgery at Beaumont Hospital to place electrodes in his brain, which send electrical impulses to control his tremors.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan show, Michael says the surgery has allowed him to enjoy life again.
"One reaches a level where one has to accept that enough is enough. I've reached that level now. I'm able to do all these things and enjoy life again. I've been so lucky because only one person in 10 are suitable for this surgery, so I was unfortunate to get Parkinsons but I was lucky that I got a certain type of it"
