A Leitrim native has been appointed as president of the ASTI.
Geraldine O'Brien, who's originally from Drumkeerin began her term as president of the Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland on Tuesday.
The association protects the interests and employment conditions of second-level teachers across the country.
O'Brien has often spoken out about teachers' concerns regarding the recent changes made to the Senior Cycle in secondary schools
She also advocates for teachers' participation in decisions made about the syllabus
Ms O'Brien succeeds the late Miriam Duggan, who was president of the association until her sudden passing in June.
