Five people in the Carrick-on-Shannon region have been on the waiting list for a council home for over 10 years.
According to freedom of information figures, one person has been on the list for 15 years and five months.
There are a total of 252 people on the social housing waiting list in Leitrim, including 152 in the Carrick-on-Shannon Municipal District and 26 in the Ballinamore MD.
Drumshanbo-based councillor Brendan Barry says more homes are urgently needed to keep up with demand.
Leitrim County Council said: "A number of the applicants who have been on the social housing list for a longer period were previously offered accommodation but refused same.
"In addition, Leitrim County Council operate a Choice Based Letting Scheme and all applicants on the list, irrespective of their area of choice, can apply for houses which are advertised.
"They will then be considered together with all other applications received in accordance with our Allocation Scheme."
