Leitrim recorded the lowest Covid-19 death rate in the country according to new figures released by the Central Statistics Office.
The research focuses on the months between March 2020 and February 2022 with 59% of virus related deaths nationally occurring in general or orthopedic hospitals.
In Leitrim, a total of 26 deaths were recorded, two in the 44 to 54 years age group; six were in the 55 to 64 age category; seven were in the 65-74 years group while 11 were aged 85 plus.
Longford recorded the next fewest deaths locally at 36, with the highest amount in the 85 or over age category.
Sligo saw a total of 45 covid related deaths where 16 were in their mid 70’s to 80’s and 23 were 85 or older.
A total of 59 people died during the 23 month period in Roscommon, while Westmeath saw the highest Westmeath saw the highest number of covid-19 deaths in the Shannonside region at 82,
Nationally, Dublin City recorded the highest number of deaths at 951 out of a total of 5,384.
