Renters facing difficulties in County Leitrim are being encouraged to share their stories at a public discussion this weekend.
The meeting is being organised by the Sligo/Leitrim branch of Community Action Tenants Union which was established in Spring 2022.
CATU is made up of renters, council tenants, mortgage holders, and people in emergency living situations, and defends their rights through collective action.
The event will take place on Saturday April 15th in St. George's Vistor Centre in Carrick-on Shannon between 1:30 and 3:30.
Chairperson of the Leitrim/Sligo CATU group Victoria van der Spek says local renters are worried.
'Part of this is the lifting of the eviction ban, a lot of people have been threatened or they have been evicted and left living in precarious situations such as living on couches, perhaps their rent has been increased as they just fall outside the catchment area for rent pressure zones so people have actually come to us both people who have found us online or we have reached out to them.'
