People in Leitrim are being encouraged to go to a public consultation in Carrick on Shannon this Thursday about proposed flood defences for the town.
The consultation will outline four options put forward by Ryan Hanley Engineers who were commissioned by Leitrim council to develop a Flood Relief Scheme for the area in February of 2020.
The specific areas under consideration are in Carrick on Shannon town and Cortober but the plans also look at the Jamestown and Lough Allen areas where weirs control the water coming in and out of the Shannon.
Senior Engineer with Leitrim council Shay O' Connor says it's very important they get peoples opinions on the four options being considered at the moment.
'We feel that we know everything there is to know about the Carrick-on-Shannon, Cortober and the river and the way it flows through, but it is vital at this stage that we find out when people come in and talk to us about their concerns , we may say " we never even thought of that, we never even considered that".
At this early stage that is something that we definitely need to find out because it's no use us finding out that too late in the day , so we would encourage everybody to come in, have a chat with our designers there , tell them your concerns , your particular concerns, with regard to your property , or your land, or whatever it is , let us know what you feel.'
The consultation takes place in the Landmark Hotel this Thursday July 20th between 2 and 8 pm.
