A Leitrim student is one of eight finalists in an international competition searching for the next generation of community leaders and innovators.
Sara O'Beirne has been recognised as part of the Ardonagh Community Trust Bright Future Competition.
The Mohill Community College student has come up with a design for a wooden wind turbine kit which reduce the cost and increase its sustainability.
If her entry is successful Sarah will have the opportunity to develop her turbine further.
The winner of the award will be announced in September and the former prize winner at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition also hopes her idea could help communities in Africa.
"It was actually recommended by Self Help Africa and the Department of Foreign Development that my wind turbines could be turned into a kit and actually sent over to different parts of Africa to provide cheap energy."
