It comes as the Teacher's Union of Ireland has called for the traditional exams to go ahead, despite moves from students and politicians to reintroduce a "hybrid" leaving cert.
In his letter, Dylan Gallagher detailed how online learning and the closure of schools last year have impacted on his learning.
He believes students should be given the option to sit their exams in June or receive predicted grades.
Speaking on the Joe Finnegan Show the Carrick-on-Shannon student said Leaving Certs are anxious and he now is calling on the department to communicate with students on the issue.
