Gardai in Carrick-on-Shannon do not expect that the pedestrianisation of the town centre from this evening will make any substantial difference to traffic in the town.
Bollards will be put in place from 6pm this evening until 8am as part of a three-month trial of making the town centre car-free.
Superintendent Chris Grogan is urging people who will be coming to Carrick to use local car parks at the rear of the Bush Hotel, Flynn's Field or along by the River Shannon.
