A Leitrim TD is calling for an emergency meeting with the Taoiseach and Health Minister over the withdrawal of Cath lab services at Sligo University Hospital.
Deputy Marian Harkin believes the Government has turned its back on the people of the Northwest and insists the removal of coronary care at the facility is totally inadequate by EU Standards.
The measure comes into effect at the end of June and the Independent representative is questioning what efforts have been made by the HSE and Government to prevent its termination.
Speaking to Shannonside FM Deputy Harkin says she's appalled that cardiac patients were given just two weeks notice.
''All patients have to go to Galway and that is not acceptable. And the Minister has to do something to change this. I mean, we always talk about services north of a line from Dublin to Galway. There is not one, what they call the Primary Intervention Center north of that time.''
