A Sligo/Leitrim TD says she's very concerned about the lack of any funding provision in the proposed Nature Restoration Law which was voted on by MEPs in parliament earlier today.
The proposal was narrowly accepted with 336 votes in favour, 300 against, and 13 abstentions.
The law will require all countries in the EU to introduce measures restoring nature on 20% of their land and sea by 2030.
It's already caused significant controversy here and in other counties in relation to rewetting of land which has previously been drained for agricultural use.
Deputy Harkin who served as an MEP for several years says even though the final details are to be negotiated over the next year, she's very concerned not to see any funding provision for re-wetting land.
