A Leitrim teachers union representative says schools are facing a major struggle in attracting and retaining staff.
Roisin Doyle who's a teacher in Carrick-on-Shannon says many young teachers are leaving the sector because they can't get full-time jobs and they're going abroad.
She says the lack of staff presents a major problems for schools and better conditions are needed to attract people back to the profession.
The Leitrim teacher who represents the ASTI for Carrick and parts of Mayo says the evidence is plain to see with over half of schools struggling to fill vacancies.
