A Leitrim based teacher is welcoming cabinet approval to defer Leaving Cert exams in 5th year.
Teachers Union of Ireland representative for this region Brendan Greene says it was the right decision to reduce pressure on the secondary school system.
It's after plans for 5th years to sit the English and Irish paper one exams next year were delayed.
The Ballaghaderreen native says the teachers union are delighted with the outcome:
''It seems a very sensible decision to make, it should never have come to this anyway because it seemed quite the reversal of a sensible decision. That announcement was made on the same day as an announcement about leaving cert reform but this had little to do with reform it came completely out of left field.''
