Leitrim teenager Rachel Mallon is reported to be recovering well in London after life-changing surgery.
The 13 year old Bornacoola girl was diagnosed with a serious spinal condition just a few months ago and there was a danger she would have to lose all movement in it as a result of treatment.
Her parents managed to find a surgeon in the UK who carries out innovative treatment that will allow her retain as much movement as possible, and Rachel and her mother travelled over last week to prepare.
The 7-hour operation took place on Saturday and a statement posted afterwards said it had been very successful.
The update said Rachel had surgery on both her thoracic and lumber spine, as well as some work on her ribs and was comfortable in ICU.
