An informal event is being held in Leitrim Village this evening to celebrate International Women's Day.
Organisers say it's an historic day in the life of the village, as this is the first time that International Women's Day will be marked locally.
The event begins this evening at half past six in the Leitrim Inn and Blueway Lodge where women of all ages will gather to talk and enjoy some light refreshments.
Local business woman Anne Guckian says the gathering isn't political, religious or business orientated, and they just intend to honour women, especially those who are no longer here but were a big influence.
'We are just inviting in women from all communities to meet and have a cup of tea and a conversation that they might not have on another Wednesday evening. We are also going to salute the women that have gone ahead of us and the good women that have birthed us and influenced us. I have invited women in the locality up to 90 to tell us their stories.'
