A Leitrim woman has called for an end to the involvement of religious orders in educational facilities.
Bernie Linnane, who ran in local elections as a Labour Party candidate, was speaking after the Jesuit Order named 15 deceased members subject to child abuse complaints.
Jesuit Order provincial Fr Shane Daly said the Order's handling of child abuse was 'misguided' and allowed individuals to avoid responsibility for their crimes.
He said the approach was 'inward looking and prioritised the protection of the Jesuit Order'.
However, Bernie Linnane claimed the Order was only releasing information following pressure from victims:
She called for an end to religious orders' involvement with educational facilities.
