Leitrim's newly elected cathaoirleach has promised to tackle the issue of planning permission for family homes as a priority over his term.
Ballinamore area councillor Paddy O'Rourke has highlighted the effects local planning restrictions are having on young families seeking to build homes.
According to the local authority, environmental guidelines are preventing local people from building one-off houses in the area.
Councillor O'Rourke says that if employment in the cities continues to decentralize as we have seen during the pandemic, Leitrim will not be able to take advantage of new business unless people can buy or build a home.
