A Leitrim Councillor believes a special exemption should be made for Councils to carry out flood relief works in areas badly affected by rising water levels.
The Ballinamore M.D meeting on Monday heard that only essential works can be carried out by the local authority during the current lockdown - and this does not include flood prevention or general maintenance works such as fixing potholes
Councillor Paddy O'Rourke raised concerns for approximately 400 acres and several householders in the Cloone area who contacted him worried about the level of the river due to heavy rain in the last fortnight.
He says he understands the council's hands are tied by the government policy - but feels exceptions should be made in special cases:
