A local LGBTQ+ activist has called for the urgent introduction of hate crime legislation following the conviction of Yousef Palani for the murder of two men in Sligo last year.
Palani, of Markievicz Heights in Sligo, was sentenced to two life sentences for the murders of Aidan Moffitt and Michael Snee and 20 years for the serious assault of another man.
The double murderer had targeted men through a popular LGBTQ+ dating app.
Charley Utting, a founding member of Leitrim Pride, said that while justice has been done, many members of the LGBTQ+ community still feel unsafe.
