Mary Immaculate College in Limerick is calling for more young men to consider a career as a school teacher.
It has launched a campaign to encourage male school-leavers to think about teaching as a profession.
The Teaching Council of Ireland says there are almost 45,000 female teachers, while 8,626 are male.
Eoin Dolan is the Principal of Mother of Devine National School in Dublin, and says it's a rewarding career:
'We obviously have great holidays and it is a huge positive. Your working day is intense but you have your evenings, after your lesson planning to yourself. It is just a huge rewarding job and everyday you come in. You obviously have your planning everyday but everyday brings new challenges and new opportunities. There is never a boring day in a school.'
