Outgoing Roscommon senator Eugene Murphy says he would consider running in the next General Elections in five years' time.
It comes following his elimination on the eighth count in the agricultural panel in the Seanad elections.
The Scramogue man also unsuccessfully contested the general election in November, as an Independent.
Eugene Murphy's recent defeat ends his 40-year streak of unbroken service as a public representative.
