Anti-social behaviour along the Grand Canal in Longford is set to be the target of a new Garda undertaking.
Several instances of anti-social behaviour have recently been reported along the canal walk, which is a popular exercise amenity heavily trafficked by families, runners and cyclists.
Over the last number of days, Gardaí have responded to several reports of groups causing issues in the area.
Councillor Gerry Warnock lives close to the route and he says local gardaí have committed to mounting extra foot patrols in the area to tackle the problem. Councillor Warnock says the issue needs to be addressed rapidly and definitively.
