Local TDs have been visiting Carrick-on-Shannon today to discuss the need for a new school in the town.
Scoil Mhuire national school’s pupil number have almost doubled in the past 10 years, with around 500 enrolled now.
The school is spread over two campuses and some classes are held in five prefabs and subdivided classrooms.
Junior Further Education Minister Marian Harkin and other TDs visited the school today.
Our reporter Eoghan Murphy first spoke to the chairman of the board of management, Malachy Molloy.
Eoghan also spoke to Minister of State for Further Education Marian Harkin, who said she supports their campaign and that it's one of her priorities for her term in government.
