Junior Minister Marian Harkin says she wants a new school built in Carrick-on-Shannon within the next five years.
The Sligo-Leitrim TD was in Scoil Mhuire today to meet the board of management, along with the constituency’s other TDs – Fine Gael’s Frank Feighan, Sinn Fein’s Martin Kenny and Fianna Fáil’s Eamon Scanlon.
The national school’s pupil numbers have almost doubled in the past 10 years, with around 500 enrolled now.
It’s spread over two campuses – with some classes held in prefabs because of space problems.
Junior Minister for Further Education, Marian Harkin, says a new school building is one of her top priorities.
