Independent Marian Harkin was officially appointed as Minister in the Department of Further and Higher Education by the Taoiseach.
The Sligo-Leitrim politician and former MEP remains keen on balancing the ministerial office with her work in the constituency.
Just last week, she attended a public meeting in Leitrim Village which discussed the possibility of the conversion of the Leitrim Marina Hotel into a centre for international protection applicants.
