A Longford mother says she want's answers and reassurance from the HSE about when the children's diabetic services will begin again at Mullingar hospital.
Parents of children who attend the clinic for vital three monthly check-ups were sent letters this week telling them that all appointments been cancelled with immediate effect.
The cancellations are apparently as a result of not being able to recruit a new dedicated nurse for the team based at Mullingar hospital, and concerns had bene raised in the Dail last year about the future of the service.
Lorraine Kelly whose young daughter has type 1 diabetes and is insulin-dependent says parents are being left without support and information about what can be a very serious condition.
She says the children are being failed by the HSE and nothing seems to have been done to resolve this crisis before it got to this stage…
