A Longford TD, who's been critcised for writing a letter to the courts on behalf of some men involved in a violent incident last year, says his job is to represent all of the people in the county.
The letter was mentioned during a court hearing this week when a Circuit Court Judge praised it and the TD for penning it.
Deputy Flaherty has rejected suggestions that the letter was a character reference, and said he made it clear in the letter that he did not condone the actions of the people involved and that they must accept the consequences of their actions.

He also says he feels it is his duty as a political representative to do his best for anyone who asks him for help:
