There was a minute's silence at this afternoon's meeting of Roscommon County Council, in memory of Councillor Anthony Waldron.
The Ballintubber man died suddenly at his home in Ballintubber two weeks ago, at the age of 64.
Several councillors paid glowing tributes to the Independent councillor, and the meeting was then adjourned as a mark of respect.
Shane Tiernan, the chief executive of the council, also remembered him fondly.
Sinn Fein councillor Leah Cull worked closely with Cllr Waldron and also paid tribute, speaking to Eoghan Murphy.
