Bishop Kevin Doran has outlined his priorities after being appointed as Bishop of Achonry by Pope Francis.
He will remain in his role as Bishop of Elphin, as both Dioceses now unite under the leadership of one Bishop.
The announcement was made today during Sunday mass at the Cathedral of the Annunciation and Saint Nathy in Ballaghaderreen.
Bishop Doran, who has been the Apostolic Administrator of Achonry since last April, says this marks the next step in the planned reorganisation of the Tuam Province.
Speaking to Shannonside FM News, he said this is a significant development that puts the relationship of both Dioceses on another level.
